Terms of use

By using Wattsplain you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Estimates, not advice
The prices, bills and running costs on this site are estimates built from public averages and the numbers you enter. Your utility's rates, fees and taxes can differ, so your own bill is the final word. Nothing here is financial, legal or engineering advice. Check with your utility or a qualified professional before you make a decision that costs money, such as replacing a heating system.
Where the numbers come from
Energy prices come from the U.S. Energy Information Administration and are refreshed when it publishes new figures. Recent months are preliminary and may be revised. How each number is used is described on Data & methodology. We try to keep it accurate, but we cannot promise the data is complete, current or free of errors.
No warranty
The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using it or relying on its estimates.
Using our content
EIA data is public. The text, calculators and charts on this site are ours. You may quote or cite a figure or a short passage with a link back to the page it came from. Please do not copy whole pages or scrape the site in bulk.
